African Mahogany: Warm Tropical Color with a Refined Blended Grain Look

African Mahogany brings warmth without looking heavy, giving a kitchen, bar, office, or built-in a refined tropical hardwood presence. In the Signature Blended Grain layout, its reddish-brown tones and subtle ribbon movement create a surface that feels polished, inviting, and custom rather than ordinary.

Each top is made from solid African Mahogany hardwood using premium lumber selected for countertop production. The blended edge grain pattern introduces natural shifts in tone and grain from piece to piece, so the finished surface has depth and movement while still maintaining a clean, upscale appearance.

This species is a strong choice when the countertop is meant to be seen as part of the design, not just used as a work surface. It pairs well with white cabinets, dark painted cabinetry, brass or black hardware, and furniture-style islands where warmth and visual richness matter.

Choose the exact size, thickness, finish, edge profile, texture, cutouts, miter cuts, and joint-prep options for your project. With dimensions available up to 84 inches deep by 192 inches long and thicknesses from 1 inch to 3-1/2 inches, this is a premium custom hardwood top built around your space.

Rich Color, Custom Scale, and Refined Hardwood Character

  • Solid African Mahogany hardwood with no laminate or veneer
  • Warm reddish-brown tones with subtle tropical grain movement
  • Blended edge grain layout adds depth without looking busy
  • Premium lumber selected for countertop production, not scrap material
  • Custom sizes available up to 84 inches deep by 192 inches long
  • Thicknesses from 1 inch to 3-1/2 inches in 1/4-inch increments
  • Works beautifully for islands, bars, desks, and statement built-ins
  • Optional finishing, edge profiles, textures, cutouts, miters, and joint prep
  • Handcrafted to order in Middlefield, Ohio

Frequently Asked Questions

What design style works best with African Mahogany?

African Mahogany is well suited for warm modern, transitional, traditional, and furniture-style spaces. Its reddish-brown color adds richness without the very dark look of Walnut.

Is the top made from solid African Mahogany?

Yes. The top is made from solid African Mahogany hardwood throughout, not laminate, veneer, or a thin wear layer.

How does the blended grain pattern affect the appearance?

The blended edge grain layout shows natural tone and grain changes across random-length pieces, giving the top more movement than a uniform butcher block panel.

Can I order it for an oversized island?

Yes. Signature blended grain countertops can be made up to 84 inches deep by 192 inches long, depending on the selected configuration.

What thicknesses are available?

Thicknesses are available from 1 inch to 3-1/2 inches in 1/4-inch increments.

Can I add cutouts or a decorative edge?

Yes. Available options may include edge profiles, surface texture, sink and stove cutouts, miter cuts, joint prep, and professional finishing.

Why choose this over a stock butcher block panel?

African Mahogany Signature tops offer premium lumber, custom sizing, thickness flexibility, fabrication options, and a more refined species choice than typical stock panels.

Specifications

Your new Hardwood Lumber Company countertop is protected by a one-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship. To ensure your warranty remains valid, any unfinished countertops must be finished and installed within one week of delivery, and you must follow our Countertop Finishing and Installation Guide precisely. Natural wood characteristics, such as minor warping due to environmental changes (often correctable with proper installation) or variations in grain and color, are not considered defects. The warranty does not cover scuffs or scratches on prefinished countertops caused by installation or normal wear and tear. Specific conditions that will void the warranty include not adhering to the finishing and installation guide, failing to support overhangs greater than 10 inches, or not properly protecting cutouts for stoves (from heat) and sinks (from moisture). Additionally, countertops with sink cutouts that have a Mineral Oil Finish or Salad Bowl Finish are not covered under this warranty

To keep your hardwood countertop looking its best and performing well for years to come, proper care is essential. If your countertop arrived unfinished, it's crucial to apply a food-safe finish to all surfaces (top, bottom, and all edges) within one week of delivery. For countertops finished with oil, re-apply a quality butcher block oil or conditioner approximately twice a month, or whenever the wood begins to look dry, to keep it hydrated and protected. Clean your countertop regularly with mild soap and warm water, wiping up spills promptly. For disinfection, a diluted white vinegar solution can be used. Avoid abrasive cleaners and never let water stand on the surface for extended periods. For specialized finishes like Rubio Monocoat, use the recommended cleaning and maintenance products to preserve its unique properties.
