Proper care will preserve the beauty, performance, and longevity of your wood cutting board.
Before first use
Our cutting boards may arrive pre-treated with mineral oil, salad bowl finish, or unfinished. For best results, apply an additional coat of butcher block oil or butcher block conditioner before use.
Important: Do not use cooking oils (olive oil, vegetable oil, etc.). These oils can become rancid and produce unpleasant odors.
Oiling & Conditioning
For unfinished or newly cleaned boards:
1. Apply a generous coat of mineral oil or conditioner to all surfaces.
2. Allow the oil to absorb for 2–4 hours.
3. Wipe away any excess with a clean cloth or paper towel.
If the grain feels slightly rough after oiling, lightly sand with 150–180 grit sandpaper, wipe clean, and reapply oil.
Routine Re-Seasoning
Wood naturally dries over time.
Reapply mineral oil or conditioner when the board appears lighter in color or feels dry. For most kitchens, conditioning every 2–4 weeks is recommended.
Cleaning
Clean promptly after each use.
· Wash with mild soap and warm water
· Rinse and wipe dry immediately
· Allow the board to air dry upright or on edge
For additional freshness:
· White vinegar helps reduce odors and provides light disinfection
· 3% hydrogen peroxide may be used for deeper sanitation
· Lemon or lime with salt naturally removes odors
