The Hardwood Lumber Company manufactures high quality Wood Stair Treads and Stair Risers at affordable prices. You will be very happy with the quality of our Hard Maple Stair Risers. All our Stair Treads and Risers are milled with new, state-of-the-art equipment. Hard Maple Stair Risers are available in standard sizes or can be custom made to your specifications. Stair Treads and Risers are also available in almost any other hardwood species. We offer various texture options on all our Wood Stair Treads and Risers, including hand-scraped, wire brushed, sawcut, and distressed. All our Wood Stair Parts, including Wood Stair Treads and Risers, can be ordered unfinished or prefinished with Tread Coat Varnish, a very durable two-component, commercial grade conversion varnish, specifically made for high traffic areas. We can also stain your Wood Stair Treads and Risers with a standard stain color or apply a custom stain of your choice, using our stain match service. Choose from our standard sizes or contact us for a custom Wood Stair Riser quote. Stair treads and risers over 48" long may be slightly oversized with uneven ends.
All stair risers are custom made to order. All orders revised or cancelled after going into production (within 24 hours after order is received) will have a restocking fee of up to 50%.
Our Standard Wood Stair Risers are 3/4" thick x 8" tall. We also offer Retrofit Stair Risers. Retrofit risers are only 3/8" thick, made to fit over existing stair risers.
Our stair risers are sanded and maintained perfectly on top, while the bottom is left in a potentially rough state, untouched, because when installed it will never be visible.
Our stair treads and risers are made with a three to five piece glue up.
Because each piece of wood has its own unique character, grain and color will vary from the sample images shown.
If you prefer to have your stair riser sanded smooth and have no texture, be sure to select NONE in the Texture Options.
The Wire Brushed Texture works best on wood with an open grain, such as White Oak, Red Oak, and Ash. On other tighter grain wood species, such as Hard Maple, the Wire Brushed Texture will not have the same effect and will not be as visible.

To maintain the beauty and longevity of your hardwood stair parts, including treads, risers, and railings, regular cleaning is key. Begin by sweeping or vacuuming the stairs thoroughly to remove loose dust and debris, starting from the top and working your way down. For a deeper clean, wipe down the wood surfaces with a soft cloth lightly dampened with water and a mild, wood-safe soap or an oil soap specifically designed for wood. Ensure you dry the wood promptly with a clean cloth. Don't forget to dust and wipe railings and balusters regularly to keep the entire staircase looking its best.
Hard Maple
Hard Maple sapwood is creamy white with a slight reddish brown tinge and the heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. Hard Maple has a close fine, uniform texture and is generally straight-grained. Hard Maple is hard and heavy with good strength properties, in particular its high resistance to abrasion and wear. We use only the higher quality grades of Hard Maple lumber for our products.
Soft Maple
In most respects soft maple is very similar to hard maple. Generally soft maple sapwood is greyish white. The heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. Soft Maple is usually straight-grained and has low shock resistance. Soft maple is about 25 percent less hard than hard maple. The soft maple we use for our products is selected for a white color. We use only the higher quality grades of Soft Maple lumber for our products.
