The Hardwood Lumber Company manufactures high quality Wood Stair Treads and Stair Risers at affordable prices. You will be very happy with the quality of our Soft Maple Stair Treads. Our Stair Treads are milled with new, state of the art equipment. We can make the Stair Treads with a left or right hand return, or we can make them with a double end return in any length. Soft Maple Stair Treads are available in standard sizes or can be custom made to your specifications. Stair Treads and Risers are also available in almost any other hardwood species. Custom Wood Stair Tread options include thick stair treads for Floating Stair Treads, Winder Stair Treads, and Retrofit Stair Treads, in any custom sizes you might need. We offer various texture options on all our Wood Stair Treads including, hand-scraped, wire-brushed, sawcut, and distressed. All our Wood Stair Parts, including Wood Stair Treads and Risers, can be ordered unfinished or prefinished with Tread Coat Varnish, a very durable two-component, commercial grade conversion varnish, specifically made for high traffic areas. We can also stain your Wood Stair Treads and Risers with a standard stain color or apply a custom stain of your choice, using our stain match service.
All stair treads are custom made to order. All orders revised or cancelled after going into production (within 24 hours after order is received) will have a restocking fee of up to 50%.
Retrofit Stair Treads, also known as Retreads, are made to fit over your existing stairs. Our Retrofit Stair Treads are 3/4" thick, with an overhang on the front edge measuring 1" thick x 1-1/4" deep.
The depth selected when placing an order will be the overall depth, including the overhang.
Returns are 1-1/4" wide and extend 1-1/2" past the back side of the tread. A left or right hand return is determined by standing at the bottom of the stairs looking up. Stair treads and risers over 48" long may be slightly oversize with uneven ends. All length measurements are overall, including the return(s). For example, a single return 36" tread will have a 34-3/4" throat size, a double return 48" tread will have a 45-1/2" throat size.
Our stair treads are sanded and maintained perfectly on top, while the bottom is left in a potentially rough state, untouched, because when installed it will never be visible.
Our stair treads and risers are made with a three to five piece glue up.
Because each piece of wood has its own unique character, grain and color will vary from the sample images shown.
If you prefer to have your stair tread sanded smooth and have no texture, be sure to select NONE in the Texture Options.
The Wire Brushed Texture works best on wood with an open grain, such as White Oak, Red Oak, and Ash. On other tighter grain wood species, such as Soft Maple, the Wire Brushed Texture will not have the same effect and will not be as visible.
Soft Maple Stair Treads ship within 1 to 2 weeks.
Note: Lead times may vary based on order volume and seasonal demand. Please contact our sales team online or by phone at 1-800-798-1269 for questions regarding current order lead times.
Hard Maple
Hard Maple sapwood is creamy white with a slight reddish brown tinge and the heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. Hard Maple has a close fine, uniform texture and is generally straight-grained. Hard Maple is hard and heavy with good strength properties, in particular its high resistance to abrasion and wear. We use only the higher quality grades of Hard Maple lumber for our products.
Soft Maple
In most respects soft maple is very similar to hard maple. Generally soft maple sapwood is greyish white. The heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. Soft Maple is usually straight-grained and has low shock resistance. Soft maple is about 25 percent less hard than hard maple. The soft maple we use for our products is selected for a white color. We use only the higher quality grades of Soft Maple lumber for our products.
