The Artisan Series: Bookmatched Live Edge Countertops
Nature’s Masterpiece, Mirrored by Design.
In a world of straight lines and manufactured uniformity, a Live Edge book matched top stands apart as a rebellion of organic form. This is not standard design, but curation of nature’s most dramatic art.
Pairing sequential slabs from the same log creates a mirrored surface where the grain radiates outward from the center seam. But unlike our square-cut Bookmatched Slab tops, this edition allows the tree to dictate the perimeter. The live edge remains following the original waney curve of the log. The result is a centerpiece that feels less like furniture and more like a sculpture, grounding your space in something undeniably real.
Why Choose a Book Matched Live Edge Countertop?
Visual Center of Gravity: A book matched slab has a powerful central line that draws the eye, making the countertop the natural focal point of any kitchen or workspace.
Softened Geometry: The wandering, organic line of the live edge breaks up rigid right angles and cold surfaces, adding warmth and a breath of nature to contemporary designs.
Ingrained Organic Beauty: Unlike engineered stone or mass-produced counters, this surface is a fingerprint of nature and impossible to duplicate.
Custom Dimensions: Every slab is unique. We will work with you to find a remarkable log that meets your specific length and width requirements.
- Length: 82” (As shown)
- Depth: 51” (As shown. Varies based on the natural curve of the log)
- Thickness: 1.75” (As shown)
- Wood Species: Walnut (As shown)
The Live Edge Difference: This edition skips the square-trimmed edge and preserves the tree’s natural contour instead. Carefully de-barked and hand-smoothed to retain the character of the log’s exterior, creating a tactile, sensory experience.
The Art of Imperfection: In many cases the most beautiful parts of a flat sawn slab are often dismissed as "flaws." Here we stabilize natural checks, knots, and voids with a high-strength, black-pigmented epoxy. This creates a striking visual contrast—black glass against warm timber—turning rustic characteristics into smooth, modern design features.
Equally Beautiful & Durable: While the aesthetic is raw, the finish is refined. We seal every inch of the surface in a professional-grade acrylic polyurethane. This permanent barrier brings out the wood’s chatoyance (shimmer) and provides superior resistance to heat, moisture, and the wear of daily life.
Acquire Your Unique Piece:
These are milled slabs from whole logs, and inventory is a constantly evolving gallery of specimens. No two pieces are alike, you choose the specific board that speaks to you.
- Species Selection: We specialize in domestic hardwood live edge slabs. Black Walnut (for dark, sophisticated tones) and Hard Maple (for bright, energetic grain) are our staples, but we can source Cherry, White Oak, and many other species upon request.
- Current Stock: Because nature never repeats itself, our stock is always shifting. We are constantly adding new slabs, ensuring a diverse range of sizes and figuring. Browse our online catalogue to spark your imagination and see what is currently on hand.

To ensure your hardwood furniture remains a cherished part of your home for years, a few simple care steps are recommended. Dust regularly with a soft, clean cloth, always wiping in the direction of the wood grain. For cleaning, use a mild, wood-safe cleaner applied sparingly with a lightly dampened cloth, followed by wiping with a dry, soft cloth. Protect your furniture from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and humidity changes, which can cause fading or damage. Always use coasters, placemats, and trivets to protect surfaces from moisture, heat, and scratches.
Hard Maple
Hard Maple sapwood is creamy white with a slight reddish brown tinge and the heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. Hard Maple has a close fine, uniform texture and is generally straight-grained. Hard Maple is hard and heavy with good strength properties, in particular its high resistance to abrasion and wear. We use only the higher quality grades of Hard Maple lumber for our products.
Soft Maple
In most respects soft maple is very similar to hard maple. Generally soft maple sapwood is greyish white. The heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. Soft Maple is usually straight-grained and has low shock resistance. Soft maple is about 25 percent less hard than hard maple. The soft maple we use for our products is selected for a white color. We use only the higher quality grades of Soft Maple lumber for our products.
