White Oak Landing Stair Tread Details
Because it is mostly straight-grained and has a medium to coarse texture, White Oak has more figure than Red Oak. Typically, White Oak ranges from light in color (sapwood) to dark brown (heartwood).
At the Hardwood Lumber Company, we use only high grades of White Oak lumber for our stair parts. Our wood landing treads (nosing) are milled with new, state-of-the-art equipment. So, you can rest assured you're receiving the best quality parts for your staircase.
Please Note: Because each piece of wood has its own unique character, grain and color will vary from the sample images shown.
All Stair Treads are custom made to order. All orders revised or cancelled after going into production (within 24 hours after order is received) will have a restocking fee of up to 50%.
Customize Your Landing Stair Treads
Because each order is custom made, you can control the look of your White Oak Landing Stair Treads. Simply specify your dimensions and then add extra details, such as construction style and edge details, to create the perfect look for your project.
Sizing
Our White Oak Landing Stair Treads can be milled up to 120” long with a depth of 3 ½” or 5 ½”. All Landing Treads have an overhang measuring 1 ¼” deep and 1" thick, with a standard body thickness of ¾”. Other thickness sizes (1/2”, 9/16”, or 5/8”) include a set-up fee.
Choose from our standard sizes or contact us for a custom Wood Landing Tread quote. The standard ¾” thick Landing Tread is the only size with a groove to fit standard ¾” hardwood flooring. Depth sizes are overall, including the depth of the overhang.
Construction Style
Choose between two construction styles: wide plank or edge grain. Wide plank treads are made with the face grain showing up, highlighting the full grain pattern of the White Oak.
Edge grain treads are made similarly to butcher block countertops, with multiple wood cuts glued together with the edge facing up. This creates a striped pattern in the tread.
Edge Detail
Two edge details are available for landing treads: square and eased. Squared details offer a tight edge to each tread. Eased treads are rounded, with ⅛” and ¼” radius options available for more or less rounding.
Finish
All of our Wood Stair Parts, including Wood Landing Treads, can be ordered unfinished or prefinished with a Tread Coat. Our Tread Coat is a very durable two-component, commercial grade conversion varnish, specifically made for high traffic areas.
For best results, treads should be finished to protect the wood. We can pre-finish your stair treads with a variety of materials. You can also choose to add a stain to your treads. We offer stain match services if you would like your stairs to match another wooden surface in your home.
Textures
Our Landing Treads are sanded and maintained perfectly on top, while the bottom is left in a potentially rough state, untouched, because it will never be visible when installed.
We offer various texture options on all our Wood Stair Treads including handscraped, wire brushed, sawcut, and distressed. If you prefer to have your Stair Treads sanded smooth and have no texture, be sure to select NONE in the Texture Options.
Note: Wire brushed texture works best on wood with an open grain. For tighter grain woods, like White Oak, the wire brushed texture will not have the same effect and will not be as visible.
Shipping Information
All Wood Stair Parts are custom made to order. Shipping may vary depending on your customization options. Please provide for a standard lead time of 2 to 3 weeks for processing, milling, and shipping of stair tread orders.
Note: Lead times may vary based on seasonal demand. Please contact our sales team online or by phone at 1-800-798-1269 for questions regarding current order lead times.
White Oak
White oak sapwood is light-colored and the heartwood is light to dark brown. White oak is mostly straight-grained with a medium to coarse texture, with longer rays than red oak. White oak therefore has more figure. We use only the higher quality grades of white oak lumber for our products.
