Light Color, Bold Grain, and a Fresh Modern Hardwood Look
Ash is for customers who want a light countertop with personality. Its pale color keeps the space bright, while its bold open grain adds texture and movement that feels energetic, modern, and authentically hardwood.
In the Signature Blended Grain construction, Ash becomes especially expressive. The random-length edge grain pieces bring out natural contrast and linear grain variation, creating a surface that feels fresh and architectural rather than flat or plain.
Ash is a compelling choice for modern kitchens, creative studios, desktops, worktables, bar tops, and islands where you want a lighter wood surface with more visible grain than Maple or Birch. It can complement black, white, green, blue, or natural cabinetry and works well in contemporary and Scandinavian-inspired spaces.
Each top is made to order from solid Ash hardwood with premium sizing and fabrication flexibility. Choose dimensions up to 84 inches deep by 192 inches long, thicknesses from 1 inch to 3-1/2 inches, and the finish, edge, texture, cutouts, miters, and joint prep your project requires.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Ash visually different from Maple or Birch?
Ash is typically light like Maple or Birch, but it has a bolder, more open grain pattern that gives the countertop more visible texture.
Is Ash a good choice for a modern kitchen?
Yes. Ash works well in modern and contemporary spaces because it offers light color with strong natural grain character.
Is this countertop solid Ash?
Yes. It is made from solid Ash hardwood throughout, not laminate, veneer, or a thin hardwood layer.
Does the blended grain layout make Ash look busier?
The layout adds movement and natural contrast. For customers who want a quiet, uniform light top, Maple or Birch may feel calmer; Ash is better for visible grain character.
Can this be used as a desktop or worktable?
Yes. Ash is a strong visual choice for desktops, worktables, creative work surfaces, bars, islands, and built-ins.
What customization options are available?
Options may include custom size, thickness, finish, edge profile, surface texture, sink or stove cutouts, miter cuts, and joint prep.
How large can the top be?
Signature blended grain countertops can be built up to 84 inches deep by 192 inches long, depending on configuration.

Your new Hardwood Lumber Company countertop is protected by a one-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship. To ensure your warranty remains valid, any unfinished countertops must be finished and installed within one week of delivery, and you must follow our Countertop Finishing and Installation Guide precisely. Natural wood characteristics, such as minor warping due to environmental changes (often correctable with proper installation) or variations in grain and color, are not considered defects. The warranty does not cover scuffs or scratches on prefinished countertops caused by installation or normal wear and tear. Specific conditions that will void the warranty include not adhering to the finishing and installation guide, failing to support overhangs greater than 10 inches, or not properly protecting cutouts for stoves (from heat) and sinks (from moisture). Additionally, countertops with sink cutouts that have a Mineral Oil Finish or Salad Bowl Finish are not covered under this warranty

To keep your hardwood countertop looking its best and performing well for years to come, proper care is essential. If your countertop arrived unfinished, it's crucial to apply a food-safe finish to all surfaces (top, bottom, and all edges) within one week of delivery. For countertops finished with oil, re-apply a quality butcher block oil or conditioner approximately twice a month, or whenever the wood begins to look dry, to keep it hydrated and protected. Clean your countertop regularly with mild soap and warm water, wiping up spills promptly. For disinfection, a diluted white vinegar solution can be used. Avoid abrasive cleaners and never let water stand on the surface for extended periods. For specialized finishes like Rubio Monocoat, use the recommended cleaning and maintenance products to preserve its unique properties.
Ash
Ash sapwood is light-colored to nearly white and the heartwood varies from greyish or light brown, to pale yellow streaked with brown. Ash is generally straight-grained with a coarse uniform texture. Ash machines well, is good in nailing, screwing and gluing, and can be stained to a very good finish. Ash has very good overall strength properties relative to its weight and has excellent shock resistance. We use only the higher quality grades of Ash lumber for our products.
