Cherry End Grain Cutting Board Details

Made from high quality Cherry wood, our Cherry End Grain Butcher Block Cutting Boards are an excellent choice for a long-lasting, durable cutting surface in your kitchen. The darker, warm hues of cherry complement a range of kitchen styles.

Combing Cherry Wood with Butcher Block Construction

Cherry is known for its rich, warm wood grain and relative strength. As a cutting board material, cherry wood is rot resistant and durable, able to withstand heavy impacts. However, it’s not among the hardest woods, and this relative softness means cutting boards made from cherry wood are less destructive to knives.

End grain construction features 1-½" square cherry wood blocks glued together in a “checkerboard” pattern. By using the wood’s end grain as the cutting surface, the edge of knives and cleavers suffer less damage. Additionally, the cutting board can easily be made thicker (up to 4 ½”) for an excellent chopping surface. This style is traditionally how butcher block was constructed.

Please Note: Because each piece of wood has its own unique character, grain and color will vary from the sample images shown.

All cutting boards are custom made to order. All orders revised or canceled after going into production (approximately 2 to 3 days after order is received) will have a restocking fee of up to 50%.

Choose From Multiple Custom Cutting Board Options

We craft every Cherry Wood Cutting Board to your exact specifications. Choose from a range of options, including size, thickness, finish, and other unique features!

Size

Choose from these standard sizes for your end grain cutting board:

  • 8” deep by 12” long
  • 10” deep by 16” long
  • 12” deep by 18” long
  • 14” deep by 22” long
  • 18” deep by 24” long

You may also enter custom dimensions for cutting boards outside of these measurements. Please choose “custom size” from the Depth x Length menu.

Thickness

Choose from thickness options that range from 1-¼” to 4-½”. Thicker cutting boards provide a substantial work surface and are ideal for heavy chopping.

Finish

Our end grain cutting boards come pre-finished with your choice of food grade mineral oil, fractionated coconut oil, or salad bowl finish. You can also order your cutting board unfinished.

Additional Features

We offer these additional cutting board options:

  • Juice groove to catch drips
  • Feet (wooden bun, black silicone, or clear silicone)
  • Finger grips

Our Standard End Grain Cutting Boards have square corners and a 1/8" radius on all edges. Upon receiving your order, it is recommended that you clean the board with a damp cloth, then apply another coat of Hardwood Lumber Company Butcher Block Oil or Butcher Block Conditioner before using your cutting board for the first time. A water-resistant glue is used on all of our Butcher Block Cutting Boards.

Character Cherry

Cherry heartwood varies from rich red to reddish brown and will darken with age and on exposure to light. In contrast, cherry sapwood is creamy white. Cherry wood has a fine uniform, straight grain, satiny, smooth texture, and may naturally contain brown pith flecks and small gum pockets. Cherry is easy to machine, nails and glues well and when sanded and stained, it produces an excellent smooth finish. Our character cherry products are made by mixing the heartwood and sapwood and may also have some pith flecks and small gum pockets along with some tight knots.
