Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired Chair
Frank Lloyd Wright Willits Side Chair Reproduction
This finely crafted chair is inspired by the commanding architectural presence of Frank Lloyd Wright’s celebrated Prairie School side chair. It measures 55 3/4 inches high × 17 inches wide × 18 1/2 inches deep, giving the design its distinctive tall, narrow silhouette.
Its exceptionally high back is framed by substantial square posts and a broad crest rail, while a closely spaced row of slender vertical spindles creates a strong sense of rhythm, height, and enclosure. The geometric frame, straight legs, and box-stretcher base give the chair a sculptural, architectural quality, softened by the warmth and natural character of the richly grained wood.
A black upholstered seat provides comfort and a refined visual contrast without distracting from the chair’s disciplined lines. Equally striking around a dining table or displayed as a standalone accent piece, this reproduction brings the artistry of Wright’s architecture into the interior through furniture that is both functional and visually distinctive.
The original oak chair was designed in 1901–02 as part of the dining-room suite for the Ward Willits House in Highland Park, Illinois. Wright conceived the furnishings as an integral part of the home’s Prairie School architectural scheme, with the imposing high-backed chairs creating the formal dining environment he intended.
