Hickory Stair Riser Details

Prized for its durability and hardness, Hickory is the strongest American wood. Coloration ranges from white with faint brown lines to reddish brown. These Hickory stair risers are milled with state-of-the-art equipment using the higher quality grades of lumber.

Please Note: Because each piece of wood has its own unique character, grain and color will vary from the sample images shown. All Stair Risers are custom made to order. All orders revised or cancelled after going into production (within 24 hours after order is received) will have a restocking fee of up to 50%.

Create the Perfect Staircase

Whether you pair your Hickory Stair Risers with Hickory Stair Treads or some other wood species, you have a lot of control over the look of your risers. All stair parts are custom made to your specifications.

Sizing

Hickory Stair Risers are available in any length up to 120” and either 7 ½” or 8” in depth. Risers over 48" in length may be slightly oversized with uneven ends.

Choose from Standard ¾” thickness or Retrofit ⅜” thickness. Retrofit Stair Risers are thinner because they are put directly over your existing stair riser.

Our stair treads and risers are made with a three to five piece glue up.

Texture

We offer various texture options on all our Wood Stair Treads and Risers, including hand-scraped, wire brushed, sawcut, and distressed. If you prefer to have your stair riser sanded smooth and have no texture, be sure to select NONE in the Texture Options.

The Wire Brushed Texture works best on wood with an open grain, such as White Oak, Red Oak, or Ash. On other tighter grain wood species, such as Hickory, the Wire Brushed Texture will not have the same effect and will not be as visible.

Finish

Order your stair risers unfinished or prefinished with one of our various finishes. We recommend Tread Coat Varnish, a very durable two-component, commercial grade conversion varnish, specifically made for high traffic areas.

We can also stain your Wood Stair Treads and Risers with a standard stain color or apply a custom stain of your choice, using our stain match service.

Shipping Information

All wood stair parts are custom made to order. Shipping may vary depending on your customization options. Please provide for a standard lead of 1 to 2 weeks for processing, milling, and shipping of stair tread orders.

Note: Lead times may vary based on seasonal demand. Please contact our sales team online or by phone at 1-800-798-1269 for questions regarding current order lead times.

Hickory

Hickory is the hardest, heaviest and strongest American wood. The sapwood of hickory is white, tinged with inconspicuous fine brown lines while the heartwood is pale to reddish brown. Hickory is coarse-textured and the grain is fine, usually straight but can be wavy or irregular. The wood can be sanded to a good finish. Hickory grain pattern welcomes a full range of medium-to-dark finishes. We use only the higher quality grades of hickory lumber for our products.
