Rift Live Edge Side Tables

Each Rift Live Edge Side Table is built around a single live edge slab, its natural bark-lined edge suspended within a clean, mitered solid hardwood frame. The contrast — organic edge against crisp geometry — is what gives the piece its name and its presence. No two slabs are alike, so no two tables are, either.

The frame's corners are joined with precision-cut miters for a seamless wrap of continuous grain, and the slab centerpiece is secured to the body with Festool Domino joinery — a modern mortise-and-tenon method that's strong, stable, and completely hidden. The result is furniture that's as sound structurally as it is striking visually.

The open cube design is as functional as it is sculptural: the interior bay holds books, records, a folded throw, or a favorite object on display. Use them as living room end tables, bedroom nightstands, or a matched pair of accent pieces anchoring a hallway or reading corner.

Sold as a set of two.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the two tables in a set identical?
No — and that's by design. Each table features its own live edge slab, so the pair shares matching dimensions, species, and finish, but the bark line, grain movement, and natural character differ from table to table. We select slabs that complement each other, and we're happy to send photos of your slabs before the build begins.

Will my tables look like the photos?
Close, but never exactly. The photos show walnut, and wood is a natural material — grain, color, and the shape of the live edge vary from tree to tree. That variation is the point of live edge furniture, your set will be the only one like it.

What sizes are available?
The tables shown are 20"W x 16"D x 24"H, but every set is built to order and we can customize dimensions to fit your space — taller for a deep sofa arm, narrower for a tight bedroom wall. Contact us with your measurements for a quote.

Which wood species can I choose from?
Ten: walnut, maple, wormy maple, white oak, ash, beech, cherry, grey elm, sassafras, and sycamore. Walnut and cherry offer classic warm tones; white oak and ash run lighter and more contemporary; wormy maple, grey elm, and sassafras bring pronounced character and figure. If you're undecided, tell us about your room and we'll recommend options.

How do I choose between the finish options?
Acrylic polyurethane is our most durable everyday choice — it resists water rings and wear with no upkeep. Mineral oil gives the most natural look and feel of the wood but benefits from periodic reapplication. Polyester delivers a high-gloss, furniture-showroom surface.

Will the bark on the live edge stay attached?
Yes. The bark and natural edge are stabilized during construction and sealed under the finish. Treat the edge like any furniture surface — dust it normally and avoid prying at it — and it will stay put for the life of the piece.

How is the slab attached to the frame? Is it sturdy?
The slab is joined to the body with Festool Domino connections — a modern take on mortise-and-tenon joinery that's hidden, glued, and extremely strong. The frame corners are precision-cut miters. These tables are built for daily use, not just display.

How do I care for my tables?
Dust with a soft, dry cloth and wipe spills promptly. Avoid harsh cleaners, prolonged standing water, and direct radiator or vent heat. Like all solid wood furniture, keep them out of sustained direct sunlight to prevent uneven color change. Mineral oil finishes should be re-oiled regularly to keep the surface nourished.
