Cherry End Grain Cutting Board Details
Made from high quality Cherry wood, our Cherry End Grain Butcher Block Cutting Boards are an excellent choice for a long-lasting, durable cutting surface in your kitchen. The darker, warm hues of cherry complement a range of kitchen styles.
Combing Cherry Wood with Butcher Block Construction
Cherry is known for its rich, warm wood grain and relative strength. As a cutting board material, cherry wood is rot resistant and durable, able to withstand heavy impacts. However, it’s not among the hardest woods, and this relative softness means cutting boards made from cherry wood are less destructive to knives.
End grain construction features 1-½" square cherry wood blocks glued together in a “checkerboard” pattern. By using the wood’s end grain as the cutting surface, the edge of knives and cleavers suffer less damage. Additionally, the cutting board can easily be made thicker (up to 4 ½”) for an excellent chopping surface. This style is traditionally how butcher block was constructed.
Please Note: Because each piece of wood has its own unique character, grain and color will vary from the sample images shown.
All cutting boards are custom made to order. All orders revised or canceled after going into production (approximately 2 to 3 days after order is received) will have a restocking fee of up to 50%.

Keep your hardwood cutting board hygienic and in excellent condition with a consistent care routine. After each use, clean your board with warm water and mild dish soap, then rinse and dry it thoroughly by standing it on its edge. To keep the wood conditioned and prevent it from drying out or cracking, regularly apply a food-grade mineral oil or a specialized butcher block conditioner—we recommend doing this every 2-4 weeks, or whenever the board appears dry. For deodorizing, you can rub the surface with a cut lemon or a paste of baking soda and water, then rinse and dry. Never submerge your cutting board in water or clean it in a dishwasher, as this can cause warping or splitting.
Character Cherry
Cherry heartwood varies from rich red to reddish brown and will darken with age and on exposure to light. In contrast, cherry sapwood is creamy white. Cherry wood has a fine uniform, straight grain, satiny, smooth texture, and may naturally contain brown pith flecks and small gum pockets. Cherry is easy to machine, nails and glues well and when sanded and stained, it produces an excellent smooth finish. Our character cherry products are made by mixing the heartwood and sapwood and may also have some pith flecks and small gum pockets along with some tight knots.
