A Legacy of Butcher Block
For more than 50 years the Hardwood Lumber Company has been a staple of Middlefield, Ohio. Throughout it all, we’ve used quality American sourced lumber to craft beautiful pieces of furniture, countertops, and more. While we’ve added to our portfolio of products through the decades, our core product has remained butcher block countertops.
Whether you’ve recently purchased your first home or you’ve decided it’s time to update your kitchen, our team of woodworkers is here to help realize the perfect countertops for your dream kitchen.
Butcher Block Countertops Styles
Butcher block has historic roots in our country’s food chain, and traditional chopping blocks used “end grain” construction. Today, “butcher block” encompasses several different construction styles. Our selection of high-quality kitchen countertops includes:
We can do custom CNC laser cutouts for sinks, stoves, wall angles, and more. We also offer a large selection of edge details to suit your personal style and preferences.
Our Countertop Construction Process
Each butcher block countertop is made to order. We can accommodate almost any size or shape in a large selection of domestic and exotic hardwoods. All of our domestic hardwoods are sustainably sourced from American timber operations – many in the beautiful Appalachian mountains.
When it comes time to build your counter, we combine traditional woodworking with state-of-the-art equipment to precision cut all lumber to size. Rest assured that your countertop will be built to last.
Why Buy Butcher Block?
While laminate is a lower-priced alternative to a hardwood countertop, butcher block offers durability and timeless style. When premium quality hardwood is properly finished, it’s stain-resistant, easy to clean, and long-lasting. It’s less likely to warp and wear than laminate, and when maintained its beauty can last for decades.
Of course, many homeowners choose butcher block for its warm and inviting look. Whether you want a farmhouse, industrial, or clean contemporary-style kitchen, butcher block is as versatile as it is beautiful.

What Kitchen Styles Work Best With Butcher Block?
Butcher block complements most styles. Modern kitchens can benefit from the simplicity of wood counters. However, butcher block has earned popularity as a rustic feature, therefore, it’s often used in farmhouse-inspired looks.
Farmhouse style wood countertops have become a choice for homeowners or designers opting for a minimalist style that incorporates natural wood and rustic charm. Rustic edges, like the edge details available for our finished products, offer a more naturalistic countertop.

All wood countertop sizes are custom-made to order. Each countertop is sanded and finished perfectly on top, while the bottom is left in a potentially rough state, untouched, because when installed, it will never be visible.
