Floating Shelf Buyers’ Guide
What Are Floating Shelves?
Floating shelves are wall-mounted shelves without visible brackets, creating a clean, streamlined appearance. They are ideal for storing books, showcasing artwork, and displaying decorative items, adding both style and functionality to your space. They often fit well within contemporary style interiors, particularly those emphasizing open storage spaces and streamlined design.
Floating Shelf Size And Placement
Measure Your Space: Ensure you have enough room for the shelves and that they will fit in your desired location. Consider the shelf's length, depth, and distance between shelves if you're planning a group layout.
Placement Tips: For a balanced look, leave equal space between shelves and surrounding objects. If you're placing shelves above furniture, make sure they're centered and proportionate to the piece below.
Installing Your Shelves
Wall Type: Identify your wall type (drywall, plaster, concrete, etc.) as this will determine the kind of anchors and mounts you'll need.
Tools and Hardware: Our floating shelves come with the necessary mounting hardware, but you may need additional tools like a drill, level, and stud finder to ensure a secure and straight installation.
Maintenance And Care
Cleaning: Regular dusting and cleaning will keep your shelves looking great. Use appropriate cleaners for wood to avoid damage. Also note that many types of wood, even when properly finished, will experience discoloration when exposed to direct sunlight for long periods.
Adjustments and Repairs: Tighten any loose mounts or brackets as needed. For wooden shelves, occasional resealing or staining may be necessary to maintain their appearance.
A Sustainable Shelving Option For Your Home
Wooden floating shelves offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional shelving options, crafted from a renewable resource.
Unlike closed shelves that require additional materials for sides and backs, floating shelves minimize waste by utilizing wood efficiently. Their sleek design not only enhances aesthetics but also reduces the overall material footprint. Furthermore, choosing sustainably sourced wood supports responsible forestry practices, preserving habitats and biodiversity.
By selecting wooden floating shelves, you contribute to a greener home while enjoying a stylish and functional piece of furniture.
